GU11 Win Surrey U12 Minis Plate

GU11 Win Surrey U12 Minis Plate
What a day! The GU11 team were extremely excited to be taking part in the GU 12 Surrey Mini Plate - and coupled with the first day this season that involved sunshine - we duly all arrived at Surbiton.

The round robin section saw us beat Surbiton Swallows 2-1, and then have a rather sleepy start to the second match against a Richmond team that resulted in finally securing a 3-0 victory. Woking's Under 12 then took the pitch and whilst we camped out in their D - probably taking 20 shots - the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Coach Jim had a few words to say about that!

We ended up coming 2nd in the group (to Woking) on goal difference, which saw us enter the quarter finals playing the winners of group 3 - which was another Surbiton team - again the girls pulled through with a convincing victory.

On then to the semi finals where we met the Spencer Under 12 team.

A wonderful match then ensued with the GU11 coming out 2-0 on top - though credit has to go to the GU12 who were denied either a draw or even victory by some great goal keeping.

Onto the final - could this really be happening!!!!? A Richmond vs Woking P-flick shoot out gave Richmond the final place. Spencer - now purple in the face from sunshine and running - stayed strong and converted their chance and the Plate victory was theirs.

Unbelievable. What an end to the season.

The girls were fantastic. Great sportsmanship and lovely hockey. They were a credit to Spencer Club.

Congratulations to Maddie M, Cassia, Alina, Jess C, Maddie B, Romy, Mimi, Lucy and Emily. Emily had a nasty trip halfway through, injuring her ankle so we hope all recovers well there.
