GU12 Cup Team get Silver in Surrey championships

The cup team was playing in the Surrey U12s championships (despite the freezing conditions). We played some really good hockey in the pool stages, beating Epsom, Barnes, but losing to Surbiton.

However, going in to our final group game versus Woking, we knew a win would give us a place in the semis. We duly won 2-0 and then realised we had topped our group because of draws elsewhere in the pool.

A semi-final against Richmond ensued; we found it hard to create many opportunities and had to do a lot of defending but the defence and Maddie (in goal) held firm. After a goalless match/extra time, penalty flicks followed. Both Jasmine and Lizzie coolly converted theirs while Maddie saved both the flicks from Richmond. We had made the final!

The final was a new experience for us after previous Surrey disappointments - although we had a couple of good attacks, Surbiton were just too strong and ran out 3-0 winners.

However, as runner-ups, we progress to the the regional finals - another new experience to come. The girls all played really well and really stuck together as team - Maddie was inspired form in goal.

The result is a great reflection of all the hard work the girls throughout the GU12 section and their coaches have put in this season.

Bring on the Regionals!
