Mike Marchant

We are very sorry to report that Spencer Hockey Club Vice President Mike Marchant has passed away.

Mike was a Spencer Hockey stalwart right from his days as centre forward for the Spencer Mens 1st X1 in the 1960s

Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s Mike continued to appear for the middle teams in the club, inspiring his sons Guy and Saul who both played at Spencer for a number of years.

As well as his prowess on the pitch, Mike was an enthusiastic presence at the club over the decades. He took his position as Vice President of the club seriously and was a regular feature at AGM’s and alumni events.

During the Supervets game on Saturday they observed a minutes silence for Mike and shared their memories of playing with him.

The picture shows Mike and the rest of the 1st XI in the 1960s.

Really sorry to read of Mike's passing. He always had a smile on his face and had a very pleasant outlook on life. Recall many an enjoyable conversation with him in the mid 60s. When he learned that I was leaving for Canada, he tried to convince me that his roots were really in Quebec. My sympathies to his family.

Thank you for posting such a lovely notice. Also thank you to everyone who attended the funeral and the small ceremony held at the club this week. Michael loved the club and his hockey friends.
