John Maskell

It is with heart felt sorrow we report sad loss of one of the Spencer Club stalwarts John Maskell.John passed away peacefully on Monday at home after putting up a long and courageous fight against a terminal illness.John was a vibrant Spencer character who played hockey for the club in 60s and was renowned for his social skills in the bar too! He went onto be our chairman and he was also club treasurer and then auditor for many years. He played these roles with distinction. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Christine and family. The funeral will be held at Randalls Crematorium - Leatherhead on Monday 24 August at 3.30pm. A wake will follow at The Derby Arms at Epsom.

We are both so very sad at the loss of our wonderful friend. His contribution to Spencer Club was immense and he was always delighted to hear about the continued success of the club and its high standing.
We are comforted by the knowledge that we have many warm, happy memories from our friendship of over 50 years.

We were tracking down John to join a lunch to celebrate 50 years since starting articles to train for accountancy. John was a bit older than us but well liked by all and we were sorry to discover this. I met him again later when I played once for the Spencer 6th team which my brother Duncan, also sadly now departed, then captained. We will drink to his memory
