[Editor's foreword: In an attempt to work out what Henry VIII quote Jonny was trying to pass onto the 3s - the following have been suggested:

“Of all losses, time is the most irrecuperable for it can never be redeemed.”

"Hops are a wicked and pernicious weed."

"You have sent me a Flanders mare."

"All is lost. Monks, monks, monks!"

Now it's time to work out which one Jonny was thinking off...]

Spencer 3s Ladies vs THD 3s Ladies was always going to be a game with uncertainty, with THD being promoted from the league below last year. Spencer turned up determined to build some momentum given a great win the week before, however it was not to be. Despite all of the positives in their performance, Spencer came away feeling they beat themselves rather than having been beaten by a better side.
Spencer held possession throughout the first half with THD only having a couple of breaks towards the Spencer goal. THD scored first, from one of their few short corners. Spencer responded with constant attacks and won an increasing tally of short corners. However, with all of the good play and some goal line scrambles, Spencer could not seem to convert the chances.

The second half saw Spencer attack strongly down the right hand side (perhaps too strongly) and it was another break from THD, and another short corner, which saw Spencer go down 2-0 to a straight shot. It was a great effort from the team to push hard and respond finally with a short corner goal (one out of 12 doesn’t make for good stats). At 2-1 down, time was running out. Despite some skilful play, THD had managed to defend their lead in numbers, so Spencer found it again hard to breach the circle and get shots on goal. A final attempt, which saw a Spencer player through on goal and about to score, was scuppered by the final whistle – discussions concluded - it was what it was! A draw would have been a fair result given the amount of possession, corners and goal line scrambles Spencer 3s created.

Spencer 3s are a resilient team that learn from experience, so it’s very possible that this game will prove to be a pivotal moment in the season - the game certainly won’t dampen the determination of the team. Roll on Edwardians on Saturday where we can expect a really positive performance from Spencer 3s and get back on track.
