Basingstoke Ladies' 1XI
Spencer Women's 1
After an energetic warm up to blow the cobwebs out from travelling, marching to the classic of "(Is this to the Way to) Amarillo", Spencer Women's 1s kicked off their away game against Basingstoke 1st team. Spencer were keen to further build on last weekend's win against notoriously strong side Wimbledon (2-1) and prove that they should not be taken lightly against tough opposition Basingstoke 1st XI.

Basingstoke were strong to start the first half with a series of fast attacking plays which led to a number of short corners being awarded. This did not phase the solid Spencer back four who managed to clear a number away with authority, however, it was a powerful straight strike from the top of the D that saw Basingstoke kick off the score line.

After a rousing team talk from captain Libby Orrett, Spencer came out hard and confidently in the second half to create a number of attacking opportunities. As Spencer were getting ever closer to gaining an equaliser, a speedy run from Georgie Everitt into the circle was cut short from a rough tackle from the Basingstoke GK. A short-corner was awarded and using a well-drilled SC routine, Spencer were denied a goal with a save by a Basingstoke foot on the goal line. Sarah Brook stepped up to the p-spot with confidence and despite a convincing flick, aimed at the top left corner, the Basingstoke goalie made an incredible save to keep the score in their favour.

This gave Basingstoke an uplift and despite the continued attacking performance of Spencer, they were not able to deny another short corner goal from Basingstoke to take the final score to 2-0. Next week, Spencer travel away again to Reading.
