The second London Derby for Spencer W1s saw Wimbledon arrive at the Fortress. Spencer dominated the game in the first 10 minutes, taking control and maintaining possession with a high work rate. We commanded the ball from the rock-steady defence and transferred confidently to allow us to attack through the middle of the field, pleasantly surprised that Wimbledon lacked the enthusiastic pace shown by Surbiton’s youngsters the week before! However, Wimbledon regained control towards the latter stages of the first half, and with two of their shots hitting the post, we were pleased to go into halftime 0-0.

As Coach Adene was seemingly occupied with ’Netball Tour’ in Marbella, Justin stepped up with a rather poetic team talk, which the girls took in their stride and somehow actioned in the second half. Spencer put the first mark on the goal sheet with a converted shortcorner - a firm slap from Hettie straight into the far corner. A debut goal for the mid-fielder, who is excited to work on her goal celebrations this coming season. Wimbledon retaliated with attacking play and won several short corners. Superb work from the defence of Jodie, Brooky and Atko and keeper Nev saw only one successful conversion with a high ball just skimming off the pads and into the net.

A fairly defensive second half for Spencer kept the midfielders of Annie, Libby, DK, Kiri and Hettie busy, but a break away goal from Anna gave Spencer the lead once more. Hattie, Georgie and Emma were there to ably assist in the forward line, however our confident striker saw a glory goal in her sights and clasped it with both hands. The final whistle blew with a 2-1 victory for Spencer Ladies 1s, ripe for celebrating at the whole club Oktoberfest social that evening!
